A French postcard dating from the First World War. I thought it was fitting to use it on this day, the day that Bloggers Unite for Refugees, as we approach the 90th anniversary of the end of that war. Ninety years. Different refugees, different causes, the same problems.
Refugees United provides refugees with an anonymous forum to reconnect with missing family.

ReplyDeleteThe transport may, sometimes more sophisticated than in that postcard, but at least there they are in the fresh air. We have also to thin of refugees smuggled out in cattle trucks or worse

ReplyDeleteIt was my meaning to participate in this bloggers unite, but somehow I didn't have the energy. Well, I can excuse me with the fact that I've had a mild cold, but that's not the whole truth.... I didn't have the inspiration.

@earthlinggorgeous, it is so very sad, and we don't seem to be able to stop it happening.
@Hicham, that's it, the same mentalities keep it happening.
@Dragonstar and @Caroline, the card was originally sold in aid of orphanages in France, which makes it even more telling I think. I doubt whether our postcards now have much by way of social history.
@Max, no nothing seems to change. It mustn't stop us trying though.
