Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on climate change.
See my friend RennyBA's Terella for much more detail and news of how the movement is growing in Norway. I suspect I may be the only person in our town to turn off the lights, but do it I will.

ReplyDeleteDon't feel alone while turning of your lights - there will be a billion or more all around the world following your example!
Here, all electicity will be shut down.
ReplyDeleteWe have waterbased heating. And even our PC's will have a rest (grrr)
have a wonderful black out;))
Is this serious? I mean come one earth hour? The earth will be fine, people are going away. It is so pretentious to think that a species that has been here 200,000 years is going to save a planet that has been here 4,500,000,000 years hehehe. Save yourselves
ReplyDelete@Renny, thank you.
ReplyDelete@Tor, good for you. I won't be able to go that far.
@Anon, I don't think anyone is suggesting one hour will save the planet, it's intended as a message, a signal, to show that we need to look after this planet. Such an insignificant species shouldn't be having such a significant effect on this world.
I'll be with you there in my humble corner of the earth.
ReplyDeleteYes...time for me to be turning this machine off...we can all do our little bit...
ReplyDeleteMy candles are ready...
ReplyDelete:)
I will do my part. I don't necessarily believe it will change anything either - we don't know - but what can it hurt? One thing for sure though, anonymous drive-by shootings are always cowardly.
ReplyDeleteWe turned off the lights and went out watching.... the black. *giggles*
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful Earth Hour last night. I'm glad my family took part of this great global event.
ReplyDeletetook part in this, too, A.! this is an event we all should not miss.
ReplyDeleteMy family took part in this event last night, and I'm so happy that the awareness is spreading.
ReplyDeleteI was out there with the crowds. Many parts of Singapore were plunged into darkness.
ReplyDeleteI gave you a link love.
Join Bloggers Care for the Earth Link Love chain. Put it in your post for more links from all over the world!
Which part of France are you in? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elaine, Chrisy, Mar.
ReplyDelete@Relax Max, it should spread the message that we ought at least think about the resources we use. They aren't limitless. Thank you, I appreciate your support.
@Lifecruiser, I wish I could say the same. I need more support here....
@Heart of Rachel, good to hear!
@bingskee, great! and so true, we shouldn't miss it.
@Sassy Mom, the message spreads slowly, but it will continue I'm sure.
@ECL that sounds wonderful to see everything going dark. I'll be over to you to find out more about the chain. We're in central France - very rural.
One person may not be able to change the world, but together we'll absolutely make a difference!
ReplyDeletei've updated the linky love. :)
We observed earth hour too and am hopeful that my nieces can learn something from it. I also hope that the event will continue.
ReplyDeleteI liked this. It's not about one hour that will save the earth from the scientific point of view but it's about the message behind such event which I hope to be understood by the leaders of the world in the upcoming Copenhagen's conferecne, hopefuly!
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving comments! I had great fun turning off the lights and electricity until the mosquitoes came and attack me! haha! Then I had to turn on the fan, but I kept the lights off. Earth Hour is a great event to promote awareness of global warming, and I look forward to Earth Hour 2010!
ReplyDeleteThanks for updating with the Link Love list. Even if Earth Hour is over this year, our proof and encouragement will hopefully urge more people and bloggers to participate next year :-)
