PhotoHunt: book(s)

I've posted about books so many times before.  I can't avoid it - they are part of my life and a large part.  I've been trying hard to think of a different way of illustrating what books mean to me.

So I started off by an attempt to show that it was the content of the books that was so important - the pages rather than the spine.

But that made me think.  Dangerous, I know.  It isn't only the content of a book that is important to me, otherwise I'd invest in an e-book reader and at the moment I can't think of anything worse.

Who wouldn't like to run their hands over some beautiful books like that?  Looking along a shelf full of old friends?

Who doesn't enjoy riffling through pages until some beautiful words catch the attention?

I love all those things and can't imagine a time when an electronic device will take precedence over the sheer joy of owning books.

Disclaimer:  some people's opinions may differ.  My sister has always been even more possessive of her books than I am, and has been totally won over by an e-book reader.

  3. Hi A. --

Am with you in liking the feel of books. So don't think I'll be converting to e-books anytime soon either!

  4. Yes, I love the feel of books too. Maybe it's that it makes the words tangible that is so compelling. I can't seem to get lost in an ebook...

  6. I love the feel and the smell of books, but these days I sometimes find them hard to hold. I don't think I'm ready for an e-book reader yet though. You've been very creative with your photography.

  9. Very niely done! I used to be a little obsessive about my books, too and was always dismayed that I could read a book more than once and it looked brand new till I loaned it out and it would come back looking like it was read a hundred times. I've learned to look forward to getting a book back just for that added character.

  10. For home, curling up in a soft chair... a book.
For traveling.... perhaps an electronic reader... books are so heavy and with the restrictions on luggage weight... well, it may be the best way to go. Mine is up here.

  11. I don't like ebooks (or ebook readers) either. And I simply don't lend out my books anymore. They never seem to find their way home. Nice photos and original ideas. :)

  13. I'm totally with you there. Plus I hate the thought of reading books electronically.

  14. Yay, this post is encouragement to someone who every once in a while dreams of having a publishing company.

As much as I love the internet, some things should remain traditional, like books, and writing with pen or pencil.

  15. I am the same. There is something so clinical about reading books or even stories and poetry online. For me, when reading especially for the sheer enjoyment of it I have to have a book in my hands.
