PhotoHunt: garbage

I haven't been able to get out and about this week, so wasn't at all sure whether I'd be able to put anything up for this theme.  However, my mind came back into action last night, and I remembered this, from photos I took last January.

Once upon a time in a small town called Uzerche, in the centre of France, they had recycling bins in a car park by the river.  It was convenient to have the bins where people could park easily while they put their rubbish in the appropriate bin.

But there was a problem.  There was also a beautiful view of the town from the same car park.  And the waste containers were not beautiful.

So one day the teacher from one of the local schools asked an artist to help the pupils hide the horrible rubbish bins which were spoiling the beautiful view of the town.

The children visited the site, had ideas, made plans and drawings, recycled some unwanted objects, which some would call garbage - and hid the bins in a decorative way.

You can just get a glimpse of the town behind the bins.  If you step to one side, you can see better.

  9. Very clever and interesting! Somewhat tangentially: your post got me recalling a story I read some time back about how it was that the Taiwanese authorities having come out with recycle bins that were so cute that little children were going up and kissing and hugging them... prompting them to have to change the design of the bins to make them less cute (and, I guess, pretty)! ;D

  10. Very clever to get the town involved in creating a 'solution'.

  13. I know the subject is a photohunt thing, and not to argue about how "convenient" the placing of the bins were 'way across the river from the town. So I won't. I like the photo of the lovely town and I like the solution the schoolchildren came up with.

  14. Thank you all, my regulars and newer friends.

@YTSL, the Taiwan recycle bins must have been incredibly cute!

@Bim, it's a place worth a visit if you have time while you're passing. Attractive and some interesting history.

@Max. Sigh. Yes, I'm rising to the bait. There is more town on "this" side of the river. It's the newer part and so less worthy of a photo, so I didn't take one, but it makes the positioning of the bins very convenient for the majority of the town.
