PhotoHunt: ripples

Ripples in the river.  I took this on a late December evening.  I was fascinated by the change from the almost ripple-free river, smooth ripples over the weir, followed by turbulent ripples as the water fell to the lower level.

"Here, on the river's verge, I could be busy for months without changing my place, simply leaning a little more to right or left." ~ Paul Cezanne

Ripples in the sea and the sky.  In spite of what this looks like, it was taken mid morning in March of last year.

"I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky" ~ John Masefield

  2. Ooooooooooooo, how pretty. Not only the ripples but the bridge in the background!!!

I tried to think of something that was 'different' other than water...

So, HERE is mine The Ripple Effect.

Love the first photo. Re the second: so much gray and yet not at all boring! :)

  8. @utpo6only, thank you. I'm glad you liked them.

@Anni, yes I'm fond of that bridge too. :)

@YTSL, I was surprised at that second one myself. More to it than I thought.

@bing, fierce? The first one was taken at sunset and the light was unusual. I suppose that's why.

    @rdl, indeed you can't.

@Mrs. Mecomber, thanks, I'll be across to visit you.

@Max, what a colourful turn of phrase. Et tu, Brute. :)

  12. Both of these shots are wonderful, but I have to say the first one is my favorite. The reflection of the bridge in the background really makes this balanced.

  17. Great photos - the contrast in the first one between the mirror-like river and downstream of the weir is beautifully captured.

  19. Water is such a fascinating subject to photograph, isn't it? It can be at one moment calm, then suddenly crash over some rocks and tumble...or a bit of wind can rough its surface. Very nice photos.

  20. Very beautiful ripples!! love the b/w effect.

I would have explained my photo if I only knew how! it is an overflow channel, it was sort of a bathtub full of mountain water...
