Better late than never!
Last February we went to Rome where there is a super-abundance of superb architecture and statues, all of which have to endure the undesirable effects of attention from birds. There are pigeons on ledges...
... and pigeons on fountains ...
... and seagulls on saints' statues at the Vatican ....
... and seagulls riding horses at the Trevi Fountain ...
Unfortunately there is a lot of cleaning and restoration involved in keeping the statues looking as they should.
This is the statue of Neptune, sometimes known as Oceanus, at the centre of the Trevi Fountain.
If you'd like to join in and find other other players, pay a visit to TNchick's site where you can find out more.
I know what you mwan about pigeons. I was in the Paris Mosque in August, drinking tea and eating cakes with an old friend, it was full of sparrows. That said I like spuggies!
ReplyDeleteAnyway back to the post, nice take on the theme!
Very interesting photos of the area, and good for the theme. It must cost a lot of money to keep things looking good.
ReplyDeleteNice as pigeons are, the feral urban ones are just a plain nuisance.. like flying rats lol xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I love the way pigeons look on city buildings and statues but I know they can be a problem. Beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteI wish that someday I could visit Rome and see those historic structures.
ReplyDeletePeople should eat (more) pigeon! ;b
ReplyDeleteWell on the plus side, I always try to find something positive, cleaning those works keeps a lot of people employed. Great take on the theme. Good work.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos...the pigeons is everywhere ^_^

Undesirable indeed. And I believe the cleaning and restoration are never ending.
ReplyDeleteI won't like to do the cleaning. It's a back-breaking chore. :(
ReplyDeleteYou don't see many pigeons in Asian country because they are a delicacy. :P
there is no choice but to take good care of them. the birds' dropping are very acidic and will destroy the sculptures in the long term
ReplyDeleteA great take on the theme, a former boss of mine called them urban rats...he wasn't fond of them for the reasons you point out here!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You have a lot more history than we do here in the USA.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I would love to go to Rome just to see the architecture..and maybe the food. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture but I can sympathize with the pigeon and seagull problem. They are all over and at the highest points so much cleaning needs to be done.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was amazed at the amount of pigeons there were when we visited NYC. She had never seen them before.
