We have an adolescent black redstart.

Today was the first time we noticed one of the young out of the nest.

  1. I love the picture. Black Redstarts are one of my favourites. The established themselves in the bombsites in London after WW2 and still nest in various places. For a number of years I wrote the bit of the London Bird Report that included them, and now down at St margaret's I see a few on migration each Spring and Autumn.

  2. Of course I've never seen one before, hence the fascination, and now that we have a semi-reasonable camera, it's lovely to be able to record it.

I'm not very good on birds and have little idea of how to go about identifying them, apart from happening on a picture that matches.
