PhotoHunter: original

Some original papers we found in this house

I think probably these should have been entered last week, and last week's entry would have suited this week, but never mind, these are originals.

Above are a driving licence, a receipt for rental, and a hunting licence, all dated 1938.

These papers are letters written 1945 - 1947, again all found in this house. They are interesting because they mention the hard times in France just after the war.

One is from the archbishop saying he was going to be in the area, and did any of the parishioners have eggs or similar produce to spare because they were having difficulties managing - he asks if they can give anything "for the sake of our future priests".

Another is from Guadaloupe saying that they had been looking for chocolate and vanilla to send over, but couldn't find any. They could buy coffee at a ridiculous price, but there was no sugar whatsoever.

I didn't crop the second one quite so much, so that you can see the original floor tiles in the house.

  12. What a treasure you found! Do you know, or know of, the original owners? It reminds me that I need to get into the attic of my 100+ year old house. My nephew said that there would be "old paper" up there. But there are bats, too!

  14. These are great and original. I have such collections too especially those original stamp collections from Queen E's Coronation period but they are all sealed up in vacuum packs. Plastic surface is not so easy to shoot after all.

Anyway, congrats for being the site of the week.A job well done! Happy weekend too!

  24. Wow. I found some papers in my attic from 1938, too. The most creepy ones were newspaper clippings about Hitler' rise. The guy who saved them seemed to think Hitler was a cool dude.

  49. Wow, I've never had so many comments! Thank you all very much indeed for taking the trouble to visit and comment.

Interestingly (I was watching the stats) even when allowing for a higher than normal hit on a Saturday, only half the people who visit make a comment. That surprises me, but means I appreciate the comments all the more :)

The reason I mention it is that I would like to visit your blogs in return, but if there is no comment I can't. I think I have been round all of you, but if I have missed anyone, my apologies.
