Like many people we've had more than our fair share of water this year, though not as badly as many others. And not forgetting the people in some countries where they haven't enough.
Just four weeks ago, the river looked like this, with more rain forecast.
Fortunately the floods have subsided and the river is running more placidly, though the water is still muddy and full of debris.
The water is more placid, that is, until it arrives at this weir, where it is churned up once again as it generates electricity for our little town.
But you have to take the rough with the smooth. If you click on this you will see on the far side a tree that has come down river, and a log stuck in the middle of the weir.

I am very sorry about all of the flooding. But I think that last photo with the reflections of the clouds on the water is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how something so serene can become so devastating. Thoughts are with you all...
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it wasn't that devastating.... the people of Burma are still struggling to get back to normal after their floods.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful about so much flooding. You got some great shots. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of water! We are sorry to hear about the flooding but are glad it has subsided!
ReplyDeleteHi a. --
ReplyDeleteThat last pictures is absolutely amazing. One of my favorites of those I've seen on your blog, actually!
Re water: We've been getting more than our fair share over here in Hong Kong too this past month or so. In fact, two Saturdays ago, more rain fell over 24 hours than usually falls in the month of June!
Wonderful examples of the power of water, though it would be nice if it was more evenly distributed, huh.
ReplyDeleteHere's to improved weather patterns for you!
That's quite a contrast between the mirror-stillness and the rushing on the other side of the weir.
ReplyDeleteI just love the last photo! The reflection onthe water's surface is stunning! I hope the water levels return to normal for you soon. We're in a drought situation here, several years in a row now. This year is not as bad as last year, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... even flooding... the last one has the most wonderful reflection!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos of the river, A. Of course the flooding is horrible, it looks as though the town was swallowed up by the river. But you survived.
ReplyDeleteA river runs through my town as well, however when it floods, it utterly soaks just some farmers fields and occasionally the high water will spill over one of the roads.
Water may be beautiful but the flooding isn't. Glad to see it's receding. Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteYour last shot is truly awesome - the cloud reflections are amazing. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeletei love the last picture. truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your flooding is not like so many other places in the world at this moment. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
I love the contrast in your last photo. Beautiful serene reflections, and the underlying terrible power of the spate.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you had a good lot of electricity though!
Sooo sorry to hear about the flooding - was on the news in Norway too.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics though - thanks for sharing!
some people have it a lot worse with flooding, I hope you did not have loss.
ReplyDeletethoughts of flood and flooding always make me nervous and sad at the same time. here in our country, the rain needs to come but lots of it will devastate a lot. water is peace but it sometimes seems like a curse when it shows its fury.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots all, the last one would be my choice (maybe because of the reflection).
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and have a great day.
I'm sorry about the flooding. We have just experienced a strong typhoon and many areas in the country are flooded. Thankfully, our area is not that much affected. My heart goes out to all the families affected by the typhoon.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of the river.
ReplyDeleteI was in Richmond a few weeks ago and the River Thames was flooding the riverside walkways.
We had gales yesterday ! Summer has not started yet ..
