PhotoHunter: sad

I am sad. I am sad for a number of reasons, some of which I can't illustrate. I'm sad that I haven't managed to keep up with my comments while I was away on holiday - I thought I would. I'm sad that I'm at least 24 hours late with this post, although I'll back-date in case you don't notice :).

While I was away, I took a few shots that have a certain sadness about them.

empty playground

An empty playground at the end of the day, an abandoned coat on the bench. Amazing to me were the neglected conkers, from the horse chestnut trees. In England they would have been gathered by enthusiastic little boys (and some not so little) to play games of conkers. Having had two boys of my own, it was all I could do not to gather them up, not unlike the little boys in my mother's story.

hillside quarry

Not a very good picture I'm afraid, but just look at the sand quarry gouging into the hillside and the dust being thrown up into the air. It's sad to see.

In spite of the sadness of missing my friends, most of all I'm sad that it's the end of my holiday in such a beautiful place, the Languedoc in the south of France.

 River Orb with boulders

Anyone would feel sad leaving all that behind, wouldn't you agree?

  1. I love the final pic. I love conkers too. I still collect them, even though now I don't play with them.

  3. I would be sad leaving all that beauty too. Great take on the theme. I don't think you feel like you have to visit commenters when you are busy or on holiday. I think everyone understands that sometimes it's not possible to visit as much. It's wonderful that you share your beautiful photography and thoughtful posts whether or not you visit. I always appreciate comments but never feel like someone needs to visit just because I visit them. That's my two cents worth. I hope your vacation was very restorative although I know it's hard to see it end.

  4. I agree with what you commented in my blog totally; Femininity is not a way of dressing, it's a state of mind. Don't worry about not keeping up with the comments while you were away in holiday. We'll understand and I believe that the others, like me, would want you to enjoy your holiday more. :)

  11. The saddest thing we have to do is come home from a vacation (holiday) we are really enjoying. :) Glad you are home safely though.

  13. I loved the pictures. The ones in the mountains were really nice. I have never heard of conkers. And I am sad you feel you must comment at full steam during a holiday. But we are all better for it. :)

  16. It is nice to go away for holiday, but it is good to get back though I agree it is always sad to leave but you have your memories and pictures to remind you of happier times.

  17. I can see why you'd be sad to leave such a beautiful place! To me, though, your first photo truly shows sadness - a deserted playground, a forgotten coat, all those unwanted conkers, so sad.
When it comes to visiting other blogs, it's not always possible to do things the way you'd like. Life often takes more time than we'd wish, and anyway - why be held to a timetable when on holiday? Friends understand. Any who complain aren't worth visiting.

  21. I think over-stressed the sadness purely because of the theme for the week. I do feel sad if I say I'll do something and fail to do so, as with the commenting, but not too strongly. Perhaps sorry would be a better word - but sorry wasn't the theme!

I did find the deserted playground sad as a picture. I was sorely tempted to collect all the conkers, but no idea what to do with them next. Such a shame I don't know any small boys these days.

Leaving a holiday is somewhat sad, but that was a little tongue-in-cheek because I'm always happy to be back home.
