I've spelt favourite the American way in the title, but I won't be able to keep it up!
A few weeks ago, we went to visit one of my favourite parts of the south coast, favourite because my parents and other members of the family lived in the area for many years and it became very familiar to me.
My father worked in the shadow of Dover Castle so that became a favourite sight, and he was given a painting of the view when he retired.
They lived on the cliffs, just out of sight beyond the lighthouse which is just about visible in this shot. The white cliffs of Dover are a favourite sight for many people.
During our visit I went for a walk in Hythe as the sun was setting. I took a number of shots, but these two are my favourites.
Ducks making their way down the Royal Military Canal.
And always a favourite for me, the sun setting.
I had a difficult weekend last time, with viruses being only part of it, so I wasn't able to visit all my favourite blogs, but things should be better this week.

I love the shot with the duck. It seems to be trying to drag my eye back down the photograph. Very clever.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know that Dover had a castle. It's very impressive.
You have a great collection of shots here, and all of them different. I'd hate to have to choose one overall favourite out of these.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenery...I was lucky enough to see the white cliffs once.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos... I dream of going there one day. Have a great weekend. ~*~
ReplyDeleteGood shots. I would like to visit the Dover area.
ReplyDelete@Solomon, I couldn't work out why the ducks were making their way steadily along the canal (there were others in the distance). They weren't in any great hurry. Perhaps it was bedtime.
ReplyDelete@Dragonstar, for me, definitely the sunset. Wins every time.
@June, the cliffs are quite impressive I think, possibly better from further away and a better lens.
@Laura, keep dreaming! :)
@Adullamite, well worth a visit - steeped in history if that interests you.
very nice shot with the duck and the canal! but actually, these scenarios can truly become faves.
ReplyDeleteI love the castle, it looks like it belongs in a fairy tale!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, and a delight to see-- as usual! I am glad you've recovered from your "virus." I wish we all knew which blogs these nasty things were coming from!
ReplyDeleteHappy Photo Hunters! I did mine, too.

Great shots. I lived in Dover for a while when I worked at teh Eastern Docks. Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteLol... the American way ;-) I absolutely love that first shot, though they are all fantastic! Hope you are feeling much, much better!
ReplyDeleteOh, absolutely beautiful part of the country.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
Yes, I always loved the cliffs as they signalled my return towards home when I lived in East Sussex.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely NOT a favourite was working in an acute admission orthopaedcics where, where we received the idiots who jumped off Beachy Head, and didn't do the job properly, so ending up much worse off than they were before.
Sorry to mention that, but it was the view of the cliffs that caused the synapse.
Lovely photos, particularly the ducks.
These are all fabulouse photos from a favorite place.
ReplyDeleteWith your words I understand why.
I've only been to Dover once. A day trip from Calais back in 1992 (sic).
Great pics. BTW, had read/heard about the white cliffs of Dover but hadn't realized until visiting your blog that Dover has such an impressive looking castle!
ReplyDeleteThe white cliffs of Dover! The genuine white cliffs of Dover. I've never seen them. They sure are white.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic photos!
ReplyDeleteSunset is also my favorite - I used to live in a coastal town in Cambodia where the sunset is truly amazing.
Have a great weekend.
The clouds over the castle were beautiful. I can see many colors in them! Call me silly, but I did not realize you were not American!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteThe Royal Military Canal looks so tranquil. Could a boat sail down it?
Very beautiful scenery! viruses??? hope you end the year happily and healthy!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and panoramic. Castles are one of my weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteAs usual A. the photographs are quite beautiful. I can't pick a favourite though. They are all wonderful
