La Fête des Mères - Mother's Day in France
To my surprise, I received a beautiful bunch of roses and a telephone call for the Fête des Mères. Surprised because my sons had already remembered the UK Mothering Sunday on 22 March this year. If I play my cards right, I could have several celebrations a year.
The French celebrate Mother's Day on the last Sunday in May, except when it falls on Pentecost when it becomes the first Sunday in June - which is what happened this year.
The dates for the coming years are
30 May 2010
29 May 2011
03 June 2012.

That is so sweet - my little angels completely forgot until I came back from voting with chocolates and a coffee machine from my neighbour, there followed much urgent whispering with The Grouch, who somewhat grumpily informed me that he didn't appreciate being sent out shopping on a Sunday, after being dumped with the kids for two whole days.

Sort of sweet. I had a slightly disgruntled son on the phone say "You mean I remembered in March too?"

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gesture and beautiful rose.
ReplyDeleteMother's Day should be international and on one specific day, I call my mother on the first Sunday in May (that's when Spain celebrates it!!) because I forget otherwise...how confusing!!
Beautiful Rose Photo.
ReplyDeleteA hint: In Norway Mothers day are the second Sunday of February. Do I see you in Oslo in 2010?
