Photohunt: orange
The Roman theatre in Orange, in the south of France (Provence). I have to say that there is not a lot to Orange, the town, apart from this and the Triumphal Arch, but that same evening we were treated to an orange sky over Orange.
Twenty minutes from the town of Orange, I took this picture from a hilltop village.
"He hangs in shades the orange bright Like golden lamps in a green night." ~ Andrew Marvell
"The majority of (painters), because they aren't colourists, do not see yellow, orange or sulphur in the South (of France) and they call a painter mad if he sees with eyes other than theirs." ~ Vincent van Gogh.

A town called Orange. I was expecting orange orchards. :)
ReplyDeleteOrange may not have much beyond the Roman Theatre -- but wow, what a Roman Theatre to have! ;b

ReplyDeleteI hope you can come visit my "orange" stuff at New York Traveler.net. :)
Have a great weekend!
When I read Expat Travellers respond to Orange,
ReplyDeleteI, belive me or not, tought about the Town Orange.
My first visit was even before the Autoroute in the Rhône Vally wre constructed, so we had to pass the Triumphal Arch on the old RN-was it 6 or 7?
Afterwards, well we stayed for 8 concecutive years - i.e. Vacations in Ardeche when the 2 youngest still were kids. You see.
btw. I'm terrible sorry to have been a very absent commenter to your wonderful blog for too long. Everthing has a reason, but I'm still a bit ashamed.
best regards

Very nice post. See you next week.
ReplyDeleteLovely sky - never knew there was a town called Orange. Must say orange is not the colour one first associates with Provence.
ReplyDeletehi, such beautiful scenery..
ReplyDeleteThat sky is spectacular. I am always amazed at the rich and vibrant colors in sunsets.
ReplyDeleteThis time last september I rode through Orange en-route to the South of France, I remember it being hot (especially with the slow traffic) and heavy at the time but the fields of sunflowers we passed during the day must have been magnificant when in bloom.
ReplyDeleteYou know we were in Provence at a Blog Gathering this summer, but did not go to The Roman theatre - so thanks for taking us with!
