Free water

Remember Free Rice? In the same manner, Free Poverty is a (n addictive) game, a game that benefits a charity.

Instead of testing your spelling, you are tested on your geography. You merely have to place cities and well known sites on a map of the world. Easy peasy.

Let me tell you, they are VERY picky, most especially if you don't know the US of A too terribly well. You can be three countries out in Asia (THREE COUNTRIES) but woe betide you if you're three millimetres out in the USA. Still, I did get to super-hard level (yes I did) where I was very much helped by all the questions being placed in Algeria. Happily I know where that is. Can anyone beat 250?

Try it. Donate some water to Water Aid, one of my favourite charities. They do the dirty work.

  1. Great site! I agree, though, it is very hard indeed. I'd spend hours playing if I could just guess the country, but having to know where a city is is putting me off.

  2. What a fun game. But it isn't that hard, is it? I got 267 the first time, but I want to try it again later. What killed me was the African nations on the super-hard level. Hard for an American like me. As you say, the U.S. locations had to be pretty close, but how could you miss those anyway, right? :) Thank you for the tip. It was fun. I put my badge on my blog. I will try for 300 the second time.

Couldn't find which of your blogs the badge is on. (Not to mention the sour grapes cos I can't get past 197)

  5. This game could become addictive. I went there for a quick look and only left a half an hour later. I only managed a best of 189. Thanks for the heads-up.

  6. Very addictive! Solomon, it took me a while to realise I had to get the cities in the right place in the right country. I started off feeling triumphant just knowing where the countries were. Sadly, Max must have scored 267 because he does have a badge. I have since trounced him soundly :) :)

  10. Very addictive! I made over 500, but that's because most of the Super Hard ones were either in Argentina or Algeria, so I just had to stick a flag in the middle of the country somewhere.
It's all those ex-Soviet republics that keep tripping me up though.

  12. Without a doubt you can get a technique going, but even still Catherine, that's good going! It's good fun but I don't find it as addictive as the Free Rice game.
