Adding (a glimpse of me)

I thought I would return to photo hunting in the new year of 2013 - but not this week.  I didn't think I had anything to fit the themes.  I never include myself in photos but then I came across some that included a glimpse.

Some gardens and parks add art, presumably to enhance the view. Sometimes they do, and this sculpture I thought did fit in fairly well, at the Salutation Gardens.

At times I'm guilty myself of trying to enhance nature and this sunset is one example of using an added boost of colour.  The original must have been good enough for me to have taken the picture but when I viewed it on the computer I did think it needed an extra something.

I am also guilty of adding a little glimpse of myself, most frequently shadow.  I can't think what I thought this would show but my excuse is that it was the hottest day of summer, the one hot day of last summer (25 July) and it must have gone to my head.

On that same day I managed to produce what used to be a common occurrence, the finger across the lens.  It's almost impossible with my own camera but I must have decided to take my husband's camera that day.  It was a long walk in the sun and a smaller camera seemed sensible.

In spite of all the artificial additions, I really prefer nature's own.  As far as I'm concerned, these wild flowers added more interest than any shadow or finger of mine.

A two-in-one post for the Photo Hunts.

Ne'er cast a clout till May is out

Alternatively, if you're French: En avril, ne te découvre pas d'un fil; en mai, fais ce qui te plaît.

I was thinking about this as I was driving to work this morning, seeing the students on their way into lectures wearing shorts, and wishing I hadn't left all my summer clothes in France.

Almost on cue, it said on the radio that the woodland Trust has declared that spring is the new summer because hawthorns (also known as May trees) are blossoming in the countryside and swifts are returning early, so if the BBC says so, it must be true.

British Summer Time

It’s official – the clocks went forward last night (but it's hard to tell by looking out of the window - cold and grey). Somehow I missed the announcements on the radio, television, so we’re a bit behind ourselves today as we try to catch up.

The clocks change throughout Europe on the same day, though this hasn’t always been the case. I can remember there being a three to four week lag between the UK and mainland Europe, causing great confusion when trying to contact people – were we on the same time, or two hours ahead, or behind?

One autumn, a good many years ago, we went on holiday and totally missed the clocks changing because we used to avoid all radio or television, and we had no mobile phones in those days. The time apparently changed half way through our two week holiday and we spent the whole of the second week being mystified by the ways in which the rural community in France paid no heed to opening hours or general timekeeping. It wasn’t until we arrived at the port an hour early that we realised.

And now someone is going to tell me that the clocks changed in North America, what, about three weeks ago? It's finally dawned on me. I have a vague recollection that my sister said they were changing earlier than usual, and, when I’ve been looking at the traffic on here, I have been thinking you are all going to bed very early ….
